A farmer is that person who lives by cultivating crops. The activities of a farmer are not easy at all. He works very hard from morning to evening. He is to work in open field in the sun, in severe cold, again in the rain.

Though he works very hard, he earns very little. Generally, he lives in the village. He cannot educate his sons and daughters properly. He can’t give them good cloth, good food and proper treatment.
With all these, he leads a miserable life. In the society, a farmer is regarded as a man of low quality. A farmer has both joy and sorrow. When he gets good harvest, his joy knows no bounds.
Again when his crops are damaged by flood, cyclone, drought etc. his life becomes very miserable. In such situation, sometimes, he is to starve. But the development of a farmer’s condition is a must.
Because, he is the backbone of our national economy. He should be given loan on easy condition, good seeds, irrigation facility and training on cultivating scientifically. If he gets these facilities, his condition must be developed.

একজন কৃষক হলো ঐ ব্যক্তি যে জীবনধারণ করে শস্য চাষাবাদ করে। একজন কৃষকের কাজ মোটেও সহজ নয়। যে খুব কঠোর পরিশ্রম করে খুব সকাল থেকে সন্ধ্যা পর্যন্ত। তাকে কাজ করতে হয় খোলা মাঠে প্রখর রোদের মধ্যে, প্রচ- ঠান্ডার মধ্যে, আবার বৃষ্টির মধ্যে।
যদিও সে খুব কঠোর পরিশ্রম করে, সে আয় করে খুব কম। সাধারণত, সে বাস করে গ্রামে। সে শিক্ষিত করতে পারে না তার ছেলে-মেয়েকে ভালোভাবে। সে তাদেরকে দিতে পারে না ভালো কাপড়, ভালো খাদ্য এবং সুচিকিৎসা। সবকিছু মিলে সে যাপন করে একটি দুর্দশাপূর্ণ জীবন।

সমাজে একজন কৃষক বিবেচিত হয় নিম্নশ্রেণির মানুষ হিসেবে। একজন কৃষকের আছে আনন্দ, বেদনা দুটোই। যখন সে ভালো ফসল পায় তার আনন্দেও সীমা, পরিসীমা থাকে না। আবার যখন তার ফসল ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয় বন্যা, ঘূর্ণিঝড়, অনাবৃষ্টি ইত্যাদি দ্বারা তখন তার জীবন হয়ে পড়ে খুব দুর্দশাপূর্ণ।
এরকম পরিস্থিতিতে, মাঝে মাঝে, তাকে না খেয়ে থাকতে হয়। কিন্তু কৃষকের অবস্থান উন্নয়ন অতি আবশ্যক। কারণ সে মেরুদ- আমাদের জাতীয় অর্থনীতির। তাকে দেয়া উচিত সহজ শর্তে ঋণ, ভালো বীজ, পানি সেচ সুবিধা এবং বৈজ্ঞানিক পদ্ধতিতে চাষাবাদের প্রশিক্ষণ। যদি সে পায় এই সুবিধাগুলো, তার অবস্থা অবশ্যই উন্নত হবে।
