National flag is the highest respectful and glorious thing for any nation. In external appearance, it is a piece of fabric designed in special colours.
National flag symbolizes the freedom of a nation. Every independent nation of the world has a national flag of her own.
As an independent country, Bangladesh also has a national flag. The proportion of its length and breadth is 10 : 6. It is rectangular in size. Our national flag is a combination of two colours green and red.
The red part is round and it is in the centre. The radious of the red circle is one-fifth of the length of the flag. The green colour represents the youthful vigour and the evergreen fields and forests of Bangladesh. It also indicates peace and amity.
On the other hand, the red circle represents the rising sun with hopes and dreams of a new nation. Generally, the national flag is hoisted on top of the important government buildings and educational institutions.
But on some special days, it is hoisted in almost all offices and institutions. On the national mourning days, it is kept half mast. I feel limitless pride for our national flag.
National flag is a most valuable achievement for us. So we should try to make it more glorious. By loving the country truly and doing our duty properly and sincerely we can uphold its honour and dignity.

জাতীয় পতাকা সর্বোচ্চ সম্মানজনক এবং গৌরবময় জিনিস যেকোনো জাতির জন্য। বাহ্যিক দৃষ্টিতে ইহা একখন্ড কাপড় বিশেষ রঙের নকশা করা। জাতীয় পতাকা প্রতীক হিসেবে কাজ করে একটি জাতির স্বাধীনতার।
বিশ্বের প্রত্যেক স্বাধীন জাতির আছে একটি নিজস্ব জাতীয় পতাকা। একটি স্বাধীন দেশ হিসেবে, বাংলাদেশেরও আছে একটি জাতীয় পতাকা।
জাতীয় পতাকার দৈর্ঘ্য ও প্রস্থের অনুপাত ১০ : ৬। ইহা হয় আয়তাকার আকারের। আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকা দুটি রঙের সমন্বয় সবুজ ও লাল।
লাল রঙের অংশটা বৃত্তাকার এবং ইহা কেন্দ্রস্থলে অবস্থিত। লাল বৃত্তের ব্যাসার্ধ পতাকার দৈর্ঘ্যের এক- পঞ্চমাংশ। সবুজ রং নির্দেশ করে তারুণ্যদীপ্ত প্রাণশক্তি এবং বাংলাদেশ চিরসবুজ মাঠ ও বনভূমিকে। ইহা আরও নির্দেশ করে শান্তি ও সম্প্রীতিকে।
অন্যদিকে লাল বৃত্তটি তুলে ধরে একটি নতুন জাতির আশা ও স্বপ্নময় উদীয়মান সূর্যকে। সাধারণভাবে, জাতীয় পতাকা উত্তোলন করা যায় গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সরকারি দালান ও শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোর চূড়াতে।
কিন্তু কতগুলো বিশেষ দিনে, ইহা উত্তোলন করা হয় প্রায় সকল অফিস ও প্রতিষ্ঠানে। জাতীয় শোক দিবসগুলোতে এটাকে রাখা হয় অর্ধনমিত। আমি অনুভব করি অসীম গর্ব আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকার জন্য।
জাতীয় পতাকা একটি মহামূল্যবান অর্জন আমাদের জন্য। তাই আমাদের উচিত ইহাকে করে তোলার চেষ্টা করা আরও গৌরবমণ্ডিত। দেশকে সত্যিকারভাবে ভালোবাসার মাধ্যমে সঠিকভাবে, আন্তরিকভাবে আমাদের কর্তব্য পালনের মাধ্যমে আমরা সমুন্নত করতে পারি ইহার সম্মান ও মর্যাদাকে।
