Introduction: A village market is badly important for the villagers. It is such a place where the villagers gather to sell and buy things. Generally, small markets sit every morning or afternoon. Big markets sit twice or thrice a week. It plays a great role to the rural economy.
Where sit: Normally, a village market sits at such a place where the villagers can easily go and come. So, the junction of roads, the side of a river or canal are proper place for a village market. Big banyan trees are found in the village market.

Kinds of village market: Village markets are of two kinds. These are the daily market and weekly market. The weekly markets are of big sized. Thousands of people gather in the weekly markets.
Parts of a village market: Generally, a village market has three parts. These are open space, temporary shed and permanent shed. Milk, fruits, vegetables, betel leaves, ducks, hens etc. are bought and sold in the open space. Potato, paddy, rice are also bought and sold here. Fish, meat, oil, salt, soap etc. are bought and sold in the temporary sheds. On the other hand, the grocers, tailors, doctors sit in the permanent sheds.
Advantages: There are many advantages of a village market. It provides almost all necessary things to the villagers. Besides, things are sold at somewhat cheap rate here. On the other hand, in this market, the villagers meet one another and find pleasure happiness.
Disadvantages: There are also some disadvantages of a village market. It is a noisy and unhealthy place. Serious sound pollution is created here. Moreover, the whole market becomes muddy and slippery on the rainy days. Then people are to face many problems.
Conclusion: Despite some disadvantages a village market is very useful for the villagers. In a word, it is the backbone of rural economy.

ভূমিকা: একটি গ্রাম্য বাজার অধিক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ স্থান গ্রামবাসীদের জন্য। ইহা এমন একটি জায়গা যেখানে গ্রামবাসীরা মিলিত হয় জিনিসপত্র কেনা-বেচার জন্য। সাধারণত ছোট বাজারগুলো বসে প্রত্যেক সকালে অবথা বিকালে। বড় বাজারগুলো বসে সপ্তাহে ২/৩ বার। ইহা পালন করে একটি বিরাট ভূমিকা গ্রাম্য অর্থনীতিতে।
যেখানে বসে: সাধারণত একটি গ্রাম্য বাজার বসে এমন একটি জায়গায় যেখানে গ্রামবাসীরা সহজে আসা-যাওয়া করতে পারে। তাই রাস্তার সংযোগস্থলে, নদী বা খালের ধার উপযুক্ত জায়গা একটি গ্রাম্য বাজারের জন্য। বড় বড় বটগাছ দেখতে পাওয়া যায় গ্রাম্য বাজারগুলোতে।
গ্রাম্য বাজারের প্রকারভেদ: গ্রাম্য বাজারগুলো দুই ধরনের। সেগুলো প্রাত্যহিক বাজার এবং সাপ্তাহিক বাজার। সাপ্তাহিক বাজারগুলো বড় আকারের। হাজার হাজার লোক জমায়েত হয় সাাপ্তাহিত বাজারগুলোতে।
গ্রাম্য বাজারের অংশসমূহ: সাধারণত একটি গ্রাম্য বাজারের থাকে / আছে তিনটি অংশ। সেগুলো খোলা জায়গা, অস্থায়ী চালা এবং স্থায়ী চালা। দুধ, ফলমূল, শাকসবজি, পান, হাঁস, মুরগি ইত্যাদি বেচা-কেনা হয় খোলা স্থানে। আলু, ধান, চালও বেচা-কেনা হয় এখানে। মাছ, মাংস,তেল, লবণ, সাবান ইত্যাদি কেনা-বেচা হয় অস্থায়ী চালাগুলোতে। অন্যদিকে, মুদি, দর্জি, ডাক্তার, বসে স্থায়ী চালাগুলোতে।

সুবিধাসমূহ: অনেক সুবিধা আছে একটি গ্রাম্য বাজারের। ইহা যোগান দেয় প্রায় সকল প্রয়োজনীয় জিনিস গ্রামবাসীদেরকে। তাছাড়া, জিনিসপত্র বিক্রয় হয় কিছুটা সস্তা দামে এখানে। অন্যদিকে, এই বাজারে, গ্রামবাসীরা মিলিত হয় একে অন্যের সাথে এবং খুঁজে পায় আনন্দ ও সুখ।
অসুবিধাসমূহ: কিছু অসুবিধাও আছে একটি গ্রাম্য বাজারের। এটা একটি কোলাহলময় এবং অস্বাস্থ্যকর জায়গা। মারাত্মক শব্দ দূষণ সৃষ্টি হয় এখানে। তাছাড়া, পুরো বাজার হয়ে যায় কর্দমাক্ত এবং পিচ্ছিল বৃষ্টির দিনে। তখন লোকদেরকে সম্মুখীন হতে হয় প্রচুর সমস্যার।
উপসংহার: কিছু অসুবিধা সত্ত্বেও একটি গ্রাম্য বাজার অত্যন্ত উপকারী গ্রমাবাসীদের জন্য। এক কথায়, ইহা গ্রাম্য অর্থনীতির মেরুদণ্ড।
