What television is: The word television has come from the Latin words ‘tele’ and ‘vision’. ‘Tele’ means distance and ‘vision’ means sight. So, television means sight from distance. Through television, we not only hear the voice but also see the speaker.
Use of television: Television has many kinds of uses. Its main function is to telecast various kinds of programmes. It is the best media of our recreation. Many kinds of enjoyable programmes are telecasted in different channels. These programmes give us huge pleasure and fun. Television is a great source of education and knowledge. Various kinds of educative and informative programmes are telecasted through television. Besides, the news programmes give us the current news of the whole world. We can also enjoy the live telecast of all international games and sports. Invention of dish-sntena has brought a radical change in television sector. Now we can enjoy so many foreign channels. As a result, we can know the customs and tradition of other countries. Moreover, television plays an important role to make communication between the government and public.
Bad sides of television: Television has some bad sides too. It is very harmful for those students who spend most of their time by watching television. By watching foreign programmes, our young generations are being influenced by foreign culture. As a result, our own culture is being destroyed gradually.
Conclusion: Television is really a great blessing. It has opened a new dimension in human life. It has become a part and parcel of our daily life. But watching TV should be consciously controlled.

টেলিভিশন কি: টেলিভিশন শব্দটি এসেছে ল্যাটিন শব্দ ‘টেলি’ এবং ‘ভিশন’ থেকে। ‘টেলি’ মানে দূরত্ব এবং ‘ভিশন’ মানে দৃশ্য। তাই টেলিভিশন মানে দূর থেকে দেখা। টেলিভিশনের মাধ্যমে আমরা শুধু কণ্ঠই শুনি না, বক্তাকেও দেখি।
টেলিভিশন ব্যবহার: টেলিভিশনের অনেক ধরনের ব্যবহার রয়েছে। এর প্রধান কাজ হল বিভিন্ন ধরনের অনুষ্ঠান সম্প্রচার করা। এটি আমাদের বিনোদনের সেরা মিডিয়া। বিভিন্ন চ্যানেলে অনেক ধরনের উপভোগ্য অনুষ্ঠান সম্প্রচার করা হয়। এই প্রোগ্রামগুলি আমাদের বিশাল আনন্দ এবং মজা দেয়। টেলিভিশন শিক্ষা ও জ্ঞানের একটি বড় উৎস। টেলিভিশনের মাধ্যমে বিভিন্ন ধরনের শিক্ষামূলক ও তথ্যবহুল অনুষ্ঠান সম্প্রচার করা হয়। এছাড়া নিউজ প্রোগ্রামগুলো আমাদের সারা বিশ্বের বর্তমান খবর দেয়। এছাড়াও আমরা সকল আন্তর্জাতিক খেলা ও খেলাধুলার সরাসরি সম্প্রচার উপভোগ করতে পারি। ডিশ-এন্টেনার উদ্ভাবন টেলিভিশন খাতে আমূল পরিবর্তন এনেছে। এখন আমরা অনেক বিদেশী চ্যানেল উপভোগ করতে পারি। ফলে আমরা অন্যান্য দেশের রীতিনীতি ও ঐতিহ্য জানতে পারি। তাছাড়া সরকার ও জনসাধারণের মধ্যে যোগাযোগ স্থাপনে টেলিভিশন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে।
টেলিভিশনের খারাপ দিক: টেলিভিশনেরও কিছু খারাপ দিক আছে। যারা বেশির ভাগ সময় টেলিভিশন দেখে কাটায় তাদের জন্য এটা খুবই ক্ষতিকর। বিদেশী অনুষ্ঠান দেখে আমাদের তরুণ প্রজন্ম বিদেশী সংস্কৃতির দ্বারা প্রভাবিত হচ্ছে। ফলে আমাদের নিজস্ব সংস্কৃতি ধীরে ধীরে ধ্বংস হয়ে যাচ্ছে।
উপসংহার: টেলিভিশন সত্যিই একটি মহান আশীর্বাদ। এটি মানুষের জীবনে একটি নতুন মাত্রা উন্মোচন করেছে। এটি আমাদের দৈনন্দিন জীবনের একটি অংশ এবং পার্সেল হয়ে উঠেছে। কিন্তু টিভি দেখা সচেতনভাবে নিয়ন্ত্রণ করা উচিত।
